Waiver

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Fall - 07/07/2022 - 07/31/2022

Spring/Summer - 12/03/2022 - 01/06/2023

The Spring/Summer waiver deadline ended 01/06/2023. The online waiver system can no longer accept new waiver requests.

All full-time domestic students are automatically enrolled in Oberlin’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). The insurance fee will appear on students’ accounts as an additional charge, separate from tuition and other fees. If students have alternative health insurance coverage, a waiver may be submitted.

To waive the SHIP, Oberlin requires that students provide proof of coverage equal to or better than the coverage provided by Oberlin’s SHIP. Please be advised that the waiver request will be reviewed and verified active with the insurance carrier.

Waiver Requirements:

  1. Coverage must be active.
  2. Have equivalent coverage, in the Oberlin area, to the Oberlin Student Health
  3. Insurance plan must be Affordable Care Act (PPACA) compliant

If your plan meets the above criteria and you want to waive enrollment from the Student Health Insurance Plan, please acquire an electronic copy of the front and back of your insurance ID card and then select the link below to submit your waiver request. Once you login, select the WAIVE button under the “I Already Have Insurance.” section.

NOTE:  Waiver submission will be reviewed within 5-7 business days
